Black Barley Australia was founded by Roger Duggan in 2016 and became commercially available for the first time in 2019 with a small yield of just eight tonnes. 

Originally from Ethiopia, this wholegrain is incredibly versatile in the kitchen. Nutritionally, it is high in fibre, phosphorus and B6, and an excellent source of protein, exceeding the likes of oats, wheat and quinoa. It presents as an excellent low GI option for soups, salads and braises. 
Unlike most other grains, it is unprocessed, as it retains its outer bran layer. 

Once cooked, it takes on a shiny black to dark mahogany colour with a slightly nutty and sweet flavour.

With recognition over the last three years at the delicious. Produce Awards, this product is gaining a cult following, and as yields increase along with demand, it is set to be a super food of the future.

Black Sheep Produce is a family farm business in the Riverland region of South Australia. Our specialties are growing jujubes (also known as Chinese red dates), capers and dates. We supply a range of 100% Australian premium fresh, dried and value added products to wholesale and retail customers throughout Australia. Our products contain no artificial flavours, colours or additives – our passion is showcasing the food we grow as naturally and authentically as possible.

We strive to produce the highest quality food products while also looking after our natural resources and our focus is on minimising artificial inputs, improving our soil and maximising our water use efficiency. We also pride ourselves on providing excellent service to our customers.

Why did we call ourselves Black Sheep Produce? Simply because we like to do things differently. We grow three very ancient food crops – jujubes, capers and dates – and believe that there is a great future for these alternative crops in Australia. Although they are all very labour intensive, they are relatively low input and low water use crops compared to the more commonly grown fruit and nut trees in Australia. We also have a holistic approach to farming and apply the principle “healthy environment, healthy food, healthy people" in contrast to an industrial farming approach.

A family farm in the Riverland, South Australia growing jujubes, capers, and dates. We showcase the food we grow as naturally and authentically as possible.

Our Vanilla is grown under the canopy of the tropical Far North Queensland rainforest.

We live in the perfect environment and climate to grow Vanilla, and as such our products are 100% natural and organic. 

After eight years of experimentation we have refined our curing practices to ensure our product is of the highest calibre. 

The range of products we offer including whole bean pods, Vanilla essence and Vanilla powder will compliment any recipe. 

To ensure best quality control we involve no third party in growing and production; we grow, cure and create each product ourselves on the farm.

Breadicine is a small batch artisan bakery creating unique, high nutrient breads from carefully select ORGANIC, GLUTEN FREE, PLANT BASED WHOLEOODS ingredients.




Welcome to Brooklands Free Range Farms where we concentrate on our chemical free soil health which then translates to the health of our produce.  We regeneratively farm over 280 acres  breeding and rotational grazing Pastured Berkshire Pork and Grass Fed British White Beef which we sell direct through Farmers Markets and Restaurants, as well as local delivery. Our cattle and pigs munch away on our “salad bar” pastures which can consist of up to 15 different varieties of legumes, cereals, brassicas, vetch and flowers. Whilst the salad bar is growing its building healthy soils, keeping moisture and sequencing carbon. Our beef won a National Gold Medal in the delicious produce awards, and the Rare Breed British White Cattle, being one of the oldest breeds has a tenderness to be experienced.  Whilst the Berkshire Pork is famous for its marbling. Our pigs are also fed whey from a local cheese maker and spent brewers grain daily. During autumn they feast Quinces and Acorns for a month which gives them a flavour like no other. As well as Pork & Beef cuts we have Nitrate Free Bacon & Ham, handmade Gluten/Preservative Free Sausages. You can find us at Daylesford, Trentham, Ballan, Creswick, Alphington & Carlton Farmers Markets and soon to open Farm Gate Store. Healthy Soils, Healthy Animals, Healthy Produce, Healthy You.
